It’s your plan for how you promote and communicate your business online in support of your goals.
It’s about being intentional with where and how you appear in the digital space, because most people search online first when looking for goods or services.
Having a clear digital strategy helps your business stand out and connect with the right people at the right time.
Even a simple plan can make a big difference.
A good digital strategy helps you:
stay consistent in your messaging and branding
save time by planning ahead
reach the right audience with relevant content
present your business in a professional way.
You don’t need to be a digital expert or have a big budget. Start small, be consistent, and evolve as you learn what works best for your business.
Your business goals – what do you want to achieve online? For example, an increase in revenue or growing your audience.
Your budget and resources – how much time, money, or human resources can you allocate to implementing your strategy?
How you will measure and track your performance – how will you know if your efforts are successful?
Branding and messaging – consistent visual and written guidelines for how your business presents online.
The digital platforms you’ll use – such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, email-marketing or your website.
The kind of content you’ll share – for example, product photos, customer tips, behind-the-scenes updates, or upcoming events.
How often you’ll post on social media – whether that’s daily, a few times a week, or just once a month. Consistency is key.
What actions you want people to take – for example, making a purchase, booking a service, signing up for a newsletter or visiting your premises.
There are a wide range of digital tools that can make your business more efficient by saving time, reducing manual tasks, and improving communication with your team and customers.
Finance and administration:
Accounting and bookkeeping – track expenses, manage invoices and stay on top of cash flow.
Payroll – automate pay runs, superannuation and tax compliance.
Budgeting and forecasting – plan ahead with cash flow projections and financial modelling tools.
Human resources:
Staff scheduling – organise shifts and manage team availability.
Leave and timesheet management – record work hours, submit leave requests and track entitlements.
HR compliance and induction – manage contracts, induction materials and employee records.
Marketing and social media – promote your business, schedule posts, and reach new customers.
