Industry associations and networks
Whether you are a new entrant to business or an industry or wanting to diversify into other industries, it is very worthwhile to investigate the benefits of being a member of an industry association or network.
An industry association or trade association is an organisation established and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry. They often lead the development of standards and best practices in the industry and generally provide members with:
- the latest information relevant for business e.g. new legislation, programs or services offered by private enterprises or the government
- networking opportunities
- training and skills development programs
- financial discounts and incentives, e.g. for events and research publications
- a collective voice for the industry on issues of regulation and policy.

A business network is usually a group of people who have a common goal or interest. Some network groups are not-for-profit organisations and others are a business themselves. Ask others with similar businesses to find out about relevant networks. Your local Enterprise Centre will also be able to help.
